Cellular Phone Company Case Study
In the early 1990s a company was looking for a specific
gold-plated material, only to find that no company
knew how to handle the material. No company but Sterling Spring, that is.
This material was to be formed into small torsion springs
for a cellular phone manufacturer’s flip cell phones, and Sterling
Spring took it upon itself to locate,
acquire, and manage the gold-plated material. Once this was done,
Sterling Spring had special tool fixtures made, at no
cost to the customer, for the manufacturing of the spring.
Samples were then made and they worked with a third
party on the frequency. Once the frequency was achieved,
Sterling Spring began making the torsion springs
by the millions for the customer.
The project was a tremendous success for Sterling Spring;
sales increased by 30-40%. It also proved that Sterling
Spring’s customer service set itself apart from
other businesses. The endeavor enabled Sterling Spring
to stay on the cutting edge of technology. By upgrading
their machines it lessoned their use of their Secondary
Department, cutting costs and allowing them to compete
with offshore counterparts. Sterling Spring can make
their custom spring parts faster and offset costs.
Sterling Spring still has a solid relationship with
that third-party company; 14 years of partnering on
custom spring projects speaks for itself. Sterling Spring
currently works up their spring samples to test calculations
before full production takes place.
Sterling Spring continues to prove that they are not
a company to say “no, we can’t do that”.
They will go the extra mile for their customers, and
they’ll find answers to problematic questions.
